HEPES: 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazine ethanesulfonic acid and its Na salt
Sterile solution
(C8H17N2O4S Na, M=260.29) is organic buffering agent. Na-HEPES solution is widely used culture technology as soft buffer to maintain physiological pH values in cell and tissue culture systems in vitro.
Main characteristics of HEPES-based buffer solutions:
rCa (25 °C) = 7.5
rCa(37 °C) = 7.3
pH values operating range = 6.8 - 8.2
Application
1M HEPES is concentrated drain solution with osmolarity of 1300-1500mosm/kg.
The recommended concentration in media and isotonic solutions is 10-40mm. The optimal concentration values in culture media are 15-25mm.
Cytotoxic effects were noted on sensitive cell cultures at concentrations exceeding 25 mm.
Storage conditions: at room temperature, in a place protected from light.
