Stereoisomer of inositol. Vitamin-like substance, partially synthesized inside the body, partially coming from food. It is often found in both plant and animal cells and tissues.
It is component of membrane phospholipids, GPI anchors binding proteins to cell membrane. Due to its function as a secondary messenger, myo-inositol plays an important role in many signaling pathways of cells.
