Insulin is an important peptide that performs hormonal function. It is produced by β-cells of pancreatic islet. Regulates carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, regulating adsorption of nutrients from blood into adipose tissue, liver and skeletal muscles. Insulin increases cellular permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids, while reducing glucose concentration in blood.
