LIF is a lymphoid factor that contributes to long-term maintenance of embryonic stem cells by suppressing spontaneous differentiation. It exercises several functions, for instance, it participates in cholinergic neurons differentiation, steam cells pluripotency control, metabolism of bone and adipose tissue cells, mitogenesis and stimulation of megakaryocytes production in vivo. Human and mice LIF are identical by 78%.

Human recombinant LIF is produced by E. coli and consists of 180 amino acid residues.
Molecular weight is 19.7 kDa.
Lyophilized from solution of concentration 1 mg / ml in 1xPBS pH 7.4.
The preparation should be dissolved in sterile water, at concentration of at least 100 micrograms/ml. After that further dilution and separation to desired aliquots is possible.
Despite the fact that the lyophilized preparation can be stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, it should be stored at -18oC. The protein solution is stored in the refrigerator +4oC for 7 days, for longer storage - in the freezer at -18oC. For long-term storage add carrier protein (0.1 HSA or BSA). Repeated freezing and thawing is not allowed.
The purity was determined by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel (SDS-PAGE) and is 98.0%.
