Collagenase (type 2), sterile, lyophilized
Collagenase is an enzyme cleaves the peptide bonds between neutral amino acids (X) and glycine in amino acid sequence Pro-X-Gli-Pro. This sequence is often found in collagen. Collagenase is unique proteases. It has ability to break down collagen fibrils which has found in all types of connective tissue, such as skin, bones, tendons, blood vessels.
The ability of collagenase to destroy collagen is used in culture of human tumor cells, mouse kidney cells, brain nerve cells and many other cells except for epithelial ones. The effect on cells is rather mild, collagenase works at physiological temperature and pH, has no mechanical effect, and also does not require special equipment.
Type 2 collagenase is specific for separation and isolation cells of the heart, thyroid and salivary glands, liver, bones and cartilage. Sterile powder, used for research purposes for splitting tissues into individual cells.
Collagenase was lyophilized from Clostridium histolyticum culture.
