Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), chemically pure, 100 mL
A colourless, odourless substance with a slightly sweet taste. Widely used as a solvent.
In biology, it is used in PCR to prevent pairing of the original DNA strands, increasing reaction efficiency.
In cell biology, DMSO is also used as a cryoprotectant. A 10% DMSO solution in culture medium protects cells during cooling and freezing in liquid nitrogen.
