Description…
A white crystalline powder and versatile zwitterionic buffering agent, widely used in biological and biochemical research. Molecular formula C₈H₁₈N₂O₄S; molecular weight 238.31 g/mol. CAS No. 7365-45-9. Purity ≥99.0%; according to the manufacturer, meets molecular biology standards. Effective over pH 6.8–8.2, with pKa 7.5–7.55 at 25°C. Does not bind Mg²⁺, Ca²⁺, Mn²⁺ or Cu²⁺ ions. A member of Good's buffers.
Product:
A white crystalline powder. pH of a 1% aqueous solution: 5.0–6.5. Water solubility: 1 M at 20°C, giving a clear, colourless solution. Absorbance of a 0.1 M solution at 280 nm: not more than 0.01. Loss on drying: ≤1.0%. Heavy metals as Pb: ≤0.001%. Iron: ≤0.0005%. Endotoxins: ≤0.25 U/ml for a 0.2% solution. Free of DNase, RNase and proteases. Solutions are stable and can be autoclaved under standard conditions.
Intended use:
Used as a buffering component in cell culture, especially in ambient air without CO₂, and in biochemical and molecular biology research, electrophoresis, chromatography, diagnostic reagents and pharmaceutical preparations. Suitable for buffering cell culture media, protein solutions and enzyme reactions.
Directions for use:
To prepare a buffer, dissolve a weighed amount of HEPES in deionized water to the required concentration, usually 10–50 mM, and adjust the pH to 6.8–8.2 with NaOH or HCl. Sterilize through a 0.22 µm filter or by autoclaving. For sterile work, open the package under aseptic conditions.
Storage conditions:
Store at room temperature, tightly closed, in a dry place protected from light. Shelf life: at least 3 years under the specified storage conditions. Transport by any covered means of transport.
This product is intended for research use.
