In cell cultures, it is used as a precursor for synthesis of pyridoxal phosphate. Pyridoxal phosphate is coenzyme regulating amino acid and protein metabolism, synthesis of hemoglobin and neurotransmitters. In addition, vitamin B6 participates in lipid synthesis and gluconeogenesis, as well as regulates gene expression.
