RPMI-1640 medium, without glutamine, with HEPES
The media is used for a wide range of mammalian cells including human myeloma, mouse hybridoma, human leukocytes and B and T lymphocytes. It was originally formulated for suspension and monolayer cultures of human leukemic cells.
It is a mixture of inorganic salts, amino acids, vitamins, glucose and phenolic red dissolved in purified water, sterilized through filters with a pore size of 0.1 microns. The medium conteins 25 mmol of HEPES and has a high buffer capacity. The medium contains sodium bicarbonate.

- Appearance: clear, red-orange solution, without opalescence and sediment.
- pH: 7.0 to 7.4
- Osmolarity: 280±20 mOsm/kg
- Buffer capacity: at least 8.0 ml
PURPOSE: is used for cultivation of a wide range of animal and human cells, normal and neoplastic leukocytes.
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS: Before use, add 146 mg of sterile L-glutamine to a bottle with medium (450 ml). Manipulate the product in aseptic conditions.
HOW SUPPLIED: in sterile plastic bottle of 450 ml.
SHELF LIFE: 1 year.
STORAGE: +2 to +8 °C in a place protected from light.
RECOMMENDED USE:
- Do not use the product after its expiry date.
- Use gloves, mask and clothes adapted to the manipulation of the product to avoid contamination.
- Manipulate the product in aseptic conditions.
- Supplements such as antibiotics or L-Glutamine should be added as sterile supplements to the ready medium.
- Medium should be clear and free of opalescence and sediment.
