A white crystalline powder of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (Tris base, trometamol). Molecular formula C₄H₁₁NO₃.
Product: A white crystalline powder. Hygroscopic. Incompatible with bases and strong oxidizing agents. Stable when protected from moisture.
Intended use: Used as a buffer component in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture and pharmaceuticals, for example in protein freezing. Used to prepare buffers in the pH range 7–9, including Tris buffers, TBS, TAE and TBE. Suitable for electrophoresis, chromatography, ELISA and other analytical methods.
Directions for use: To prepare a buffer, dissolve a weighed amount of Tris in deionized water to the required concentration and adjust the pH with HCl. Sterilize by filtration through a 0.22 µm filter or by autoclaving. For sterile work, open the package under aseptic conditions.
Storage conditions: Store at 20–25°C, tightly closed, in a dry place protected from moisture, as the product is hygroscopic. Transport by any covered means of transport.
