A white crystalline powder of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane hydrochloride. Molecular formula C₄H₁₂ClNO₃. Widely used as a buffering agent in biological and biochemical research.
Product: A white crystalline powder. Melting point: 150–152°C. Hygroscopic. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, bases and moisture.
Intended use: Used as a buffer component in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell culture, including Tris buffers, TBS, TAE and TBE. Used to prepare buffers maintaining physiological pH within the range 7–9. Suitable for electrophoresis, chromatography, ELISA and other analytical methods.
Directions for use: To prepare a buffer, dissolve a weighed amount of Tris-HCl in deionized water to the required concentration. If necessary, adjust the pH with NaOH or HCl; adjustment is not required for buffer systems based on Tris-HCl. Sterilize through a 0.22 µm filter. For sterile work, open the package under aseptic conditions.
Storage conditions: Store at room temperature, tightly closed, in a dry place protected from moisture. Transport by any covered means of transport.
