World Allergy Day is celebrated annually on July 8. It was established by the World Allergy Organization in 2005 to raise awareness of a problem that is becoming increasingly widespread.
The onset of allergies is often unrelated to a person's general state of health – any substance can trigger an allergy at any time. According to WHO data, today around 40% of the world's population suffer from allergies – and this figure continues to rise steadily. In Russia, the week containing this date has been designated by the Ministry of Health as "Allergy Prevention Week."
Allergies are caused not only by external factors but also by genetic predisposition. This is why modern diagnostics increasingly turn to DNA analysis: genetic testing can identify mutations associated with allergic diseases and determine hereditary risk. This is done using PCR and DNA sequencing methods, which help detect genetic markers linked to bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis.
Allergy diagnosis is a complex process that requires high precision. Modern methods such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and molecular allergodiagnostics make it possible not only to confirm the presence of an allergy but also to identify the specific allergen that triggered the reaction. This is achieved using high-precision immunological analysers capable of testing hundreds of allergens from a single sample, as well as specialised reagents and kits.
