Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, 100 g, CDH
An organic buffer base, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, widely used to prepare buffer solutions in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell technologies.
Product: A colourless or white crystalline powder.
-
Melting point: 169°C;
-
Boiling point: 288°C, decomposes;
-
Water solubility: 678 g/l at 20°C;
-
Dissociation constant (pKa): 8.22 at 25°C;
-
Bulk density: 800 kg/m³.
Intended use: A laboratory reagent for professional use. Used to prepare buffer systems such as Tris-HCl, Tris-EDTA, TAE and TBE in biochemical and molecular biology research, and as a component of cell culture buffers.
Directions for use: Dissolve the weighed amount in distilled water to the required concentration. Adjust to the desired pH with an acid, usually HCl, using a pH meter. Keep solutions tightly closed because the product is hygroscopic and absorbs CO₂ from the air.
Storage conditions: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place in tightly closed packaging, preferably under an inert gas such as nitrogen, to prevent absorption of moisture and carbon dioxide.
